Mouse (the cat) reads Murakami...

Miss Mouse has been busy reading!
(And I--the crazy cat lady--have been at it again) ;o)

...

Mouse can often be found with her nose in a book:

One of Mouse's favourite authors is Haruki Murakami. Here she is
engrossed in his novel The Wind Up Bird Chronicle (for obvious reasons):

She will tell you that she is often enthralled and thrilled by
Murakami's mastery of magical realism:

Mouse gets rather grumpy if you interrupt her reading --
especially if you disrupt her enjoyment of the the last pages of a chapter
(or heaven forbid, you marr the end of the novel!):

She also detests it when you ask her stupid questions
about the narrative and will not hesitate to give you "the look":

Mouse has been known to read until she is
so very very sleepy that....

...she can't keep
her eyes open a second longer:

The End

Hope you're having a great week!

  11. Oooh what a CLEVER kitty! Our kitty Beatrice is also very clever and is more computer literate than my hubby. She's always going on my laptop and has typed Word documents, surfed the Net and played CDs. I must do a blog post about her one day.

Do please post more about Mouse! She deserves as much Internet exposure as Nora the Piano Cat and Maru - 2 of my favourite online kitties.

  16. Me again - you inspired me, Mel, to do a blog post about Beatrice and her computer skills, which maybe Mouse would like to read about:

  23. Hi Mel, thanks for a gorgeous post - isn't Mouse just a stunner? My soft boy cat likes to watch the TV and often goes to look behind it for the birds and animals on the screen. Hugs, Jo x

  26. Love your studious Mouse. I have 3 cats and a greyhound. One of our cats loves paper. She prefers to eat it unlike your Mouse who apparently enjoys being educated. Daisy does not descriminate. She will eat any type of paper she can before I get to her. Give her some type of food she doesn't care for and she will walk away from her dish but a good Kleenex tissue, and she's happy - lol. I LOVE animals!!

  30. Mel, this is priceless. You did a super job of documenting a very intelligent cat, without any bias.. just simply narrating your observations of cat behavior Have you considered the field of animal behavior research? Yeah, ya gotta invest in the outfit.. but they do have some cool looking camo apparel.
maybe a long telephoto lens, but..you are a natural, I tell you.....
***not a job offer***any and all safari type activities are done at your own risk*****

  34. Oh Mel

You do make me smile - especially as a cat owner and knowing exactly what they are like!!!

I hope she doesn't curl the page over when she puts the book down to come back to it, thats a really bad thing to do. Maybe you could make her a wonderfull bookmark!!!

Thanks for sharing - she's gorgeous!

  35. How talented Miss Mouse is & she chooses such great books to read. She also doesn't look like she would enjoy using an ereader. Good old fashioned books are the best. I have followed your posts for several years & really enjoy your Mouse stories. Thanks so much.
