Allison's flower challenge inspired me to use this Close to my Heart set called Playful Petals. How great is her challenge? I'll bet that Allison included everyone on the playground when she was little. I mean, Flowers!...any company!...no limits!....Everyone can play with that theme. So I did. :0)
The colours came from this week's scs colour challenge (Soft Sky, Kraft, & black) I really like embossing black with the cuttlebug (swiss dots folder i love u). I first saw Janet do it (and she added shimmer mist, which I should have added here (slaps forehead!)
I did add some little baby bling (gems glued on with Crystal Effects) and added some glitz by drawing with a quickie glue pen and sprinkling glitter on. I outlined the petals and drew in some glitter grass:
I usually neglect the corners, so this time I cut most of 'em with the ticket corner punch. I folded a couple over for something different (Tip: If yours keep popping up like mine did, you can glue them down. Take that corners!) ;0) The stem was done using freehand paper stitching (tutorial here)
Round Tab Punch
To make the tabs, I just marked and cut off some of the round part of the round tab punch (cut on the left side of the tab--whole on the right):
Super simple & it's probably been done before, but it just occurred to me so I thought I'd share.
Me likey the round tab punch as is, but I love doing something a little different with punches even more. Check out all these things that you can do with a round tab punch:

Here's how to use the round tab punch to make a curvy bit on your mats:
---------------1--------------
Punch a round tab punch, lining it up where you'd like the curvy embellishment to be on your mat.
---------------2--------------
Slide your mat (kraft paper) under the under the curvy bit Adhering your mat to the cardstock underneath (soft sky).
---------------3--------------
It should look a little like this (though spaced how you like it, of course)
---------------4--------------
Embellish it if you like
Hope this was useful. Thanks so much for reading! :0)
P.S. I try to leave a comment on all these posts every time I link. I'll bet you already do comment, but just in case you forget, please show these clever crafters some love. ;0)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the simplicity of your design.
ReplyDeleteIf it was me, I would have gone for more petals and messed up the whole thing.
Glimmer mist is hard to photograph anyway. You would have had to tell us it shimmers.
Don't have a tab punch for now.
I absolutely love how you used the tab punch Mel, so clever! Card is extremely pretty. Thanks for all the tips.

ReplyDeleteI've been hankering for the swiss dots for some time now but I was waiting for my LSS to get them in but she hasn't been able to. So today I was at..... STAMPIN BELLA!!! Wahoo. It was delightful. They were just starting a class when I got there but Emily let me shop anyway and now I am the proud owner of Swiss Dots and Birds and Swirls. I also got a "shapeabilities" called Double ended tags, perfect for sentiments :-) I'm looking for some inspiration before I go off to play!
