Magic Pattern Vellum {Puppy Love}

The marathon posts are wearin' me out, (whinge) so....
today the new technique; tomorrow the finished project & template. :O)

This is a new version of the magic pattern technique (on Vellum!) One of the things I love about Vellum, is how it gives you options for colouring. You can colour from the back, which means...you can easily create two different effects on the same image: resist and softened colour. Vellum also lets you blend markers like a pro, so this is great if you're like me & want easy easy colouring sometimes.

The stamp I've used here is a joy to colour:
it's from Little Paper Shop's new set {Puppy Love}.

Magic Pattern Vellum Technique

Supplies:

Line Stamp
Background Stamp
Vellum Cardstock
Black Craft Ink (or any dark colour, or Stazon ink)
Clear Embossing Powder
Versamark
Markers
Cotton Swab

How To:

Step 1) Emboss a line image in a dark colour (I've used black craft ink & clear embossing powder 0n Vellum Cardstock, but you could use Stazon & let dry well)



Step 2) Emboss any Background Stamp over your line image (Stamp Background Stamp in Versamark & heat with Clear Embossing Powder)



Hopefully this photo shows how the embossing leaves you with a subtle pattern that will create a resist in the next step:



Step 3) Colour areas of your image with a marker. The embossing resists the marker. (I used 2 tones to colour this sweet little heart: this first colour is SU's Regal Rose)



Step 4) Add a second darker colour for shading. (This is SU's Rose Red)




Step 5) Use the lighter colour to blend the darker colour in. The Vellum cardstock has a great texture that lets you blend colours with even more buttery blending than Copics. :O)



Step 6) Wipe the excess colour off (or you could heat set it with your heat gun instead to avoid smudging!)



Step 7) If you do get any smudges, remove them with a dampened cotton swab



Step 8) Flip the image over & colour from the back. (This is a CTMH marker: Cocoa) The colouring may look messy here, but when you flip it back over to the front, you'll have nice soft colouring from the Vellum & an embossed pattern:
